Look What I Drew!

I'm still not prepared for the convention.

I need to get my prints out, but I need money to do so. I also need business cards and my table cover (which isn't as important, but would be nice to have). I waited too long, and it's not like I can't get it done soon, it's just that I'm going to be rushing through it all. At the very least, I've got some new prints that I think will do quite nicely, so hopefully I can make a profit and thensome.

I'm not gonna do anymore print pieces, but I will work on other drawings when I can. The next project is going to be a new logo for King Puddin Art, which already looks cool and I'll try to get it finalized ASAP.

Look What I Drew! 06/18/2015

You can pick up prints at my shop!

It's happening, guys. Final Fantasy VII. Remake. I cried tears of joy when I saw the trailer.
Naturally, I had to do some fanart. I've bhttp://squ.re/1zieQS2een making new prints that I think will sell pretty well: Subject in the front (anime/game/show characters) and a strip of background. I can totally see these on people's walls.

I've also been practicing Spanish as of late. I'm tired of not being able to speak the language, considering I'm two types of hispanic, so I took it upon myself to learn. I'm getting much, much better: I'm able to hold small conversations and I'm understanding other people more. I still need a lot of practice before I'm fully comfortable, but this is exactly what I needed: to have someone to converse with so it becomes more natural. One of my biggest problems was that I was uncomfortable speaking because...well, other hispanics can be rather rude about it. Being called a fake hispanic for not speaking the language comes to mind, and also native speakers are much faster and kinda roll over you if you can't keep up.

My mom is one such person. It's bad enough that the dialect changes with the region, but trying to learn with someone who speaks a mile a minute definitely doesn't help. I do have to say, I knew much more than I thought. Minor words come very easily so I only need to pick up stringing sentences along.

I'm getting there!

Look What I Drew! 06/16/2015

Man, season 5 of Game of Thrones was a shitshow. Terrible pacing, bad writing, characters died or were put into positions for no reason other than shock value - by god, it was bad. I gave up on the series, came back for a hot minute (because the episode "Hardhome" was the only shining light of this season), and promptly left when they ruined Stannis. Yeah, season 6 needs to be amazing or this series is going bye-bye.

The biggest problem is that George RR Martin hasn't finished book 6. At all. There's only so much narrative for the show to go by, and they used it all up. They have to pull situations out of their ass and the show has suffered immensely because of it. I hate to be one of those who criticizes GRRM for his slow-paced writing, but it's true - He's making us all wait too long for his story and we have only a cheap imitation to satisfy us. It's a shame, because the show was really good up until this season, but that shows how bad the production is if they can't keep stories together once their well dries up.

Ugh. In  any case, I drew Jon Snow. He's one of my favorites. This is available for purchase as a print, which you can pick up at my shop!

Look What I Drew! 06/11/2015

So I was hired for a freelance job. The client decided my style wasn't what he was looking for.

Yeah.

It sucks to get turned down, but I feel like I've put the cart before the horse with this. I blinded myself with trying to get more money when I should be working on my own pieces for the upcoming conventions. I decided working on someone else's ideas was good for me when I didn't have my heart into what they wanted...I can't do that to myself. I'm going to end up wanting not to draw again and that won't get me anywhere, so I need to do what's important.

Look What I Drew! 04/14/2015

Daredevil!
Man, has anyone been watching Daredevil on Netflix? It's way too awesome! The casting is great, it doesn't feel like a superhero show and yet it's chock full of action, suspense, mystery...it's so good. Highly recommended.

I'm way ahead of schedule with my pieces so I may just throw in some new ones and see what sticks. I'm thinking...Edward Elric might be next. Got a good idea for that one.

Look What I Drew! 03/31/2015

The Big, Bad Bat
Only 3 more drawings left!

I'm thinking of doing a Dragonball drawing in lieu of one of the subjects I chose. Kinda have a cool idea but we'll see where it goes.

Look What I Drew! 03/29/2015

Harley and her mallet
4 down, 4 to go.

No new drawings tonight, however; I'm studying brushes and techniques tonight since Wrestlemania 1 ate up my night. Man, was it good! WWE managed to rectify all of their issues of the past year in 4 hours...it really shows that they still know how to handle their product when it comes down to it. Now, if they can keep this momentum for the rest of this year, we'll be good.

And Seth Rollins won the championship belt! I almost feel like drawing him.

Look What I Drew! 03/25/2015

Spider-Gwen, night slinging!
Another con piece finished.

I'm feeling pretty great about all of these drawings. I was looking back at some of my old artwork and, man, it's hard to believe how much I've improved over the years. Not even 3 years ago I wasn't ready to sell my art at conventions: I simply didn't believe in myself.

Not anymore.

I'm more than ready to get myself out there and see what King Puddin can do. I'm nervous, sure, but it's all from a positive place. I'm excited to finally be a professional.

Look What I Drew! 03/22/2015

Wonder Woman, looking all bad ass.
So yeah, I tried a different coloring technique with this piece and it kinda worked but I feel I put more time into it than I should have. The hair gave me a lot of trouble, so I need to try being looser with that.

I gotta work on my business cards next, and then it's onto the next print! I'm thinking...Spider-Gwen.

Look What I Drew! 03/17/2015

Ryuko Matoi (Kill la Kill)
One drawing down.

This was surprisingly easy and surprisingly difficult in some areas, namely the hair. I gotta work more on what I want to try with coloring techniques for hair, but this was mainly because Ryuko's got two damn different colors going on. Ah well, I'm really happy with this piece.

Next drawing is going to be Wonder Woman. I have a great idea and I can't wait to sketch it out.

By the way, here's my list for prints at Interventioncon:

  • Batman (Naturally)
  • Ryuko Matoi (Done!)
  • Wonder Woman
  • Maleficent
  • Attack on Titan (I've got a great/funny idea for this piece...)
  • Spider-Gwen
  • Sailor Moon
  • Possible Tokyo Ghoul piece
  • Harley Quinn (Because she's so damn popular)
These are subject to change but I'm pretty sure this is gonna be the lineup. I didn't want to do too many anime pieces but I have to try a couple. I may or may not do the Harley piece, but if I get a good idea I'm going for it.

Day 7: myself as a Katamari Damacy character
And the art jam is finished! You can check out the other artists here, and of course go like my Facebook page here.

Still waiting for my laptop. In the meantime, I'm gonna take a couple of days off from drawing...maybe, but I'll be sketching out ideas for the prints I'll be selling at Interventioncon. Man, I've got a lot of work ahead of me...

Art Jam, Day 6 - Macho Man Randy Savage
OOOOOOOOOH YEAAAAAAH!

I knew exactly what I wanted to draw for this subject and I'm so glad I did it.

Why is he holding a creamer cup, you ask? Well here you go, for reference:
God, I miss that man.

Look What I Drew! 03/10/2015

Shikamaru (Naruto)
I'm really getting the hang of coloring! Only 2 more days of the Art Jam left...this took a lot longer than I thought.

Oh, and I bought my new laptop. Can't wait to start working from bed again!

Look What I Drew! 03/09/2015

Marceline the Vampire Queen
Day 4 is really late! As a matter of fact, the art jam is over but nobody ever finishes on time so I'll have my pieces up as soon as I can. Real work gets in the way of fun work...

So I've been thinking a lot about buying a refurbished laptop. I have the money at the moment and I definitely need a laptop, I just don't know if I should spend the money just because I have it. It really wouldn't cost much (about $150) but I feel like I should be an adult and save my money...

...but I'll definitely need a laptop when I go to Interventioncon.

Ok, maybe not definitely, but it would help my productivity to have a computer that's fast enough to work on. I dunno, I'm still thinking about it but I'm leaning towards yes.

Look What I Drew! 03/03/2014

La Muerte (The Book of Life)
Oh my word did I have fun drawing this piece! It was one of those rare moments when you have an idea and it comes out better than what you originally thought. I'm leveling up like crazy this art jam!

No news today. It's been snowing and raining and I've got work tomorrow so I may not be able to get the day 4 drawing out...

Look What I Drew! 03/02/2015

Blake Belladonna.
Day 2 of the art jam: complete!

I have to admit, I've only watched one episode of RWBY, and I didn't even finish it because I got up to eat and completely forgot about it. That being said, I really like the designs of the characters and I figured everyone would do Ruby Rose so I opted to draw one of the other main characters. I also went through about 3 poses before I fell on this one...poses can be pretty damn hard.

I'm really digging using the color palettes! I want to use them more often and hopefully I'll find the colors I'm most comfortable playing with. I've got a lot of time between now and Interventioncon, so it leaves me with plenty of ideas for art pieces. I wanna do something different than most pieces at artist's alleys, so I'll try out poses, colors, whatever I can to stand out. I've got a few ideas for pieces - I'm planning about 6-8 - and once I have them drawn I'll post them up, naturally.

I'm so excited for this year!

Look What I Drew! 03/01/2015

First day of the Art Jam is complete. Unite the Seven!

I could not think of a background for this picture! Had to look up some reference photos of the sea to get an idea and I'm glad with the end result. I also used a color palette so I didn't have to bother with the right colors for skin and hair and all that. I plan on using color palettes for each piece this art jam.

In other news, my application to sell my art at Interventioncon was accepted! I'm going to my first convention as a professional artist!

I am very, very excited.

I'm going to plan out a few pieces - some are already sketched out - and get to work right away. It feels good to have purpose with my art...for way too long I wondered what I was doing and where I was going with drawing, and now it feels like it's all coming together. Things really can only go up from here, guys.

If you guys have any ideas for pieces, let me know!

March Art Jam is MY Art Jam!

A little preview of what's to come~
Sorry for the lack of updates, y'all: the art muses were not giving me anything for some time. I do have another piece but I'll upload that tomorrow - it's separate from the art jam.

As mentioned, the art jam happens this sunday. The link is here so feel free to check out all of the other artists and their work. The list is as follows:

  • Day 1: Aquaman (So you knew I was doing Jason Momoa's badass rendition)
  • Day 2:  Any of Monty Oum's characters. If you don't know him. he was one of the animators at Rooster Teeth who died suddenly this year. He's known for Red vs. Blue and RWBY
  • Day 3: La Muerta from The Book of Life. Have you seen her design? It's seriously awesome. Google her.
  • Day 4: Marceline the Vampire Queen
  •  Day 5:  Any Naruto character. Now, I've done Naruto and Sasuke to death, so I promise I'll draw someone else. As a matter of fact, I'll let you guys decide!
  •  Day 6: Macho Man Randy Savage. Ooh YEAAAAH! I already know what I'm gonna do for this one XD
  •  Day 7: Yourself as  Katamari Damacy character. I have an old drawing I'm going to update just for this
There you have it! I'm going to do my best to have previews like the one above, so keep an eye out and share on your pages!

Look What I Drew! 01/14/2015

Old drawing of Lucy (Elfen Lied)

New drawing of Lucy (Elfen Lied)

New drawings are fun.
I ran a little poll on Google Plus regarding which old drawings I'd update and like...two people responded. So weak. I'm just gonna do all 3, now. The next two subjects are:
  • Hiro and Baymax (Big Hero 6)
  • Corporal Levi (Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin)

Look What I Drew! 01/09/2015

While I have breaks at work I'm going to update old drawings. The first is Kitty Pryde from an old art jam. I never liked how she turned out in the original: I went for a pose that didn't work out and made her look very small and disproportionate. Her leg in the updated pic looks small to me but I can always fix it.

It'll be fun to redo these drawings. I usually have enough time on my hands when I'm on break and sometimes I can't think of what I want to draw. Now, I just have to see which drawing is next...

Look What I Drew! 01/07/2015

So a while back I drew this OC... Well, just a head, at first. I really liked the look and decided to give her a complete body and style.

This is the result. I have to say, I'm in love with her.

Maybe I'll find a place in a comic to put her, or possibly give her her own story. I dunno, maybe I'll just use her for character studies, but it feels kinda lame to keep her in only one thing.

Well, I'll find something for her. She's too cool to keep in one place.

Look What I Drew! 01/01/2015

1 Day art jam: Any Fantastic Four member. I chose Human Torch.

Well, this is the first drawing of the new year! It could use more attention but I'm working with a head cold so I wanted to try something cool and be done with it.

I've got some ideas for pieces: Real simple, but very cool. Can't wait to get started!
