Look What I Drew! 07/31/2014

Fina doesn't like to be touched, or laughed at. You'll understand why soon.

So here's the subjects for the Art Jam:
day 1_Guardians of the Galaxy
day 2_Usagi Yojimbo
day 3_Don Bluth's Dragon's Lair or Space Ace
day 4_LOST
day 5_Masters of The Universe
day 6_Bounty Hunters
day 7_April O'neil

Day 1 is already done and I've got the idea for Yojimbo in my head. Hopefully it'll transfer well to paper - er, screen - but I can't wait to show you guys!

Any ideas for another art jam? Leave comments and lemme know wussuuuup...maybe I'll include them when it's my turn to choose!

Look What I Drew! 07/28/2014

Another Queen's Quartz update! This time, it's the main character Serafina. Isn't she cute?

So, comic's coming along nicely and all that. I've got a good few days to work on it this week, so with any luck I can be about halfway through with the chapter by next week. Other than that, I have the Art Jam and that's about it!

Comic Con ended and there was some juicy tidbits going on. Mad Max: Fury Road was probably the biggest thing for me, especially since I couldn't care less about Batman V. Superman and I know Avengers is gonna be awesome. Anyway, Mad Max looks incredible! It's gonna be intense. and I'm glad there was no obvious CG or wires or anything like that: just straight up action and stunts...I'm so excited.

I'm waiting for the new Interstellar trailer; I heard it blew everyone away.

Look What I Drew! 07/23/2014

Another preview for Queen's Quartz! I'm about finished with a very awesome splash page, and I would've posted it but I really want it to be a surprise for you all. I'm very proud of it.

Also, Happy Batman Day! I managed to get my butt to the nearest comic shops and picked up Death of the Family, which was amazing. A very gripping story, and there's a twist in it near the end that had my eyes wide in shock. All in all, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo have been killing it on their Batman run.

Oh, and there's an art jam coming up so expect an influx of drawings soon. I'm thinking of going monochromatic with the subjects this time around...

A preview of a new page from Queen's Quartz!

I hope everyone had a good Independence Day. I spent mine at work, which wasn't too bad, but I've been used to having this day off and going to a family bbq so this was an unwanted change. I could've had a beer and a hamburger. damnit.

Anyhoo, my birthday's in two days and I plan on partying hard for the 3-0. I mean, let's face it: it's all downhill from here.

Look What I Drew! 07/01/2014

The first page of Queen's Quartz is up!

Okay, this was actually done a couple of days ago but I was having issues uploading on my phone so it took me a bit to get it on here. I have 3 pages set up and the second one is almost finished (tones are a pain in the ass), but it's all coming together very nicely! I need to get some more thumbnails done and I can definitely do 2 rough pages a day if I keep this pace going.

In other news, I saw Transformers: Age of Extinction. It was...craziness. I knew going into it that the story would be terrible - it is a Michael Bay film, after all - but damned if it didn't keep me entertained. Mark Wahlberg was actually pretty decent in this: funny, held his own in the action scenes but they didn't make him to be this super badass or anything. The only area that took me out of the movie was that he was way too jacked for an inventor, otherwise I was all in.

If you loved the first 3, you'll love this one. If not...it's a movie about giant robots: quit taking it seriously.

I'm going to end this post with a rant: The other day a fellow artist complained that getting comments/feedback such as "Your art looks like (insert another artist here)!" wasn't good because it made them feel that their art wasn't original.

I'm sorry, but here's where I take slight offense: nobody's art is original. Unique, sure, but every artist borrows from another so you'll never be truly original. To think that you are seems arrogant, personally. I understand that an artist has to feel that they're doing something no one's ever seen, and that can happen in how you approach the subject. You can tell the same story from a different perspective, you know?

In any case. it irked me to read this, then have people agree with the notion. I know that I've borrowed from others and made something that makes my style unique, and I feel that should be encouraged more than telling others they're special snowflakes.

Your guys's thoughts? Leave comments!

Look What I Drew! 06/25/2014

I know I said I'd have a page or two done next time I posted, but I'm still working.

The first pages of Queen's Quartz are all sketched up! I've already started the first page and it's inked up. I should have these three done by the end of the week...

...I'm pretty excited about this comic, you guys.

In other news, I have no video games to play. I'm thinking of going back to Skyrim, since it's my go-to whenever I need a fix. We'll see what happens, but in the meantime I probably shouldn't let anything get in the way of my comic work :p

Look What I Drew! 06/21/2014

The old sketch of Serafina, all finalized with the colors and the inking and the digital art and all.

Script is like 90% done! I'm in NYC now so I can't work on it, but by the next time I post I'll have the first pages of the comic started.

GET HYPED.

Look What I Drew! 06/18/2014

Another drawing of Puck, from the upcoming comic Queen's Quartz. He looks like he's arguing with someone, which he'll probably be doing a lot of.

The script is underway! I've written about 5 pages, and it's coming together quite nicely. The world I'm making is starting to connect, and even though it's a one shot I want to showcase the 4 leads so everyone has an idea of how they'll interact. So far, I have Fina and Puck written, and it's hilarious.

I can't wait to work on the comic~

Look What I Drew! 06/16/2014

Two more shots of Levin and Serafina. I drew Levin pretty damn adorable and I love the way he came out, and I made Fina a little more cartoonish than her original drawing.

Anyway, here's the plot synopsis to Queen's Quartz:

The Queen's Quartz - the rarest gem, said to be worth untold riches, yet none know of its whereabouts. It's said that it wields a terrible curse - it lays a heavy burden upon the one who holds it. To Serafina, it's all myth and old stories, and she sets out to find the Queen's Quartz to claim its unimaginable reward. When she gets a lead on the gem, however, she encounters a creature lost to time: an elven boy named Levin. Elves, however, have been extinct for centuries, since their last war with humankind.

Why is Levin still alive? Why is the Queen's Quartz so well hidden, and does it truly hold such a mysterious power? Will Serafina find it, and what will she lose on the road to her reward?

Sound good? I guess we'll see!

Look What I Drew! 06/12/2014

Jacob, the Knight

The Lone Elf, Levin

The last member's of the Queen's Quartz crew: Jacob, the Knight and the lone elf, Levin.

Jacob is a very honorable man, his sword skills are well recognized...but he's dumb as bricks. He's serious, usually because he doesn't get jokes or sarcasm. Levin is a peculiar character: Elves are extinct in the world of Queen's Quartz, after having battled humans for so long. Levin still being alive is unusual, and will become the center focus of the story.

Speaking of the story: I've been coming up with how it begins and how long the one shot will be, which means I'll be hammering out the first draft shortly. I think you all will enjoy it~

Look What I Drew! 06/11/2014

The next character sketch for Queen's Quartz: Puck the surly wizard. He's fond of drink and his pipe, and behind his eyepatch is a vortex that absorbs energy around him. It makes him considerably strong, which he considers a hassle and chooses to spend most of his time drunk.

I already love him.

Look What I Drew! 06/09/2014

I'm making a new comic! It's a fantasy story: Queen's Quartz, and it's a story I've always wanted to do - well, I've always wanted to do a fantasy story, but this one still needs to be fleshed out. Anyway, this is the OC: Serafina, a rogue who gets caught up looking for the Queen's Quartz, a gem that's worth many kingdoms but holds a terrible secret.

Also, I'm so used to drawing men as my main characters that it was refreshing to have a female lead in this story. I modeled her after my best friend, who is a person of color (that seems to be the phrase to use). It's gonna be a fun story, and I'm getting to work on it as soon as possible.

Expect a one shot comic in the next month or so ;D
